Marel’s Vice President Cross-Industry, Skúli Sigurdsson, has been appointed Managing Director of TREIF, effective 1 January 2021.
When Marel successfully closed its acquisition of TREIF in October 2020, two leaders in food processing technology joined forces. With TREIF’s product portfolio in the cutting segment, the transaction enhances Marel’s full-line offering for the meat industry in particular.
Skuli Sigurdsson joined Marel in May 2004 and was instrumental in the development and success of X-ray technology for food inspection. He has led Marel’s Product Management, and later Cross-industry division, since January 2015.
The Cross-Industry division at Marel develops products and solutions that operate in a multi-industry environment, identifying opportunities to introduce proven technology from one industry to others.
Portioning is one of the pillars of the Cross- Industry division, so Skúli’s dual role as Managing Director TREIF and Vice President Cross- Industry puts him in a unique position to realize the great opportunities this integration affords.
“By integrating the TREIF organization into the Marel structure as part of Cross- industry, we can combine our strengths and ensure stability, with a focus on business continuity,” says Skúli. “Our common focus on innovation and new technology is especially exciting,” he adds. “I am thrilled to be stepping into this role and look forward to working closely with my new colleagues, leading the company through the integration period.”
